Elizabeth Sheridan

Founder & Lead Teacher

Hi, I’m Teacher Elizabeth, a licensed K-12 Special Education teacher with over 25 years of experience in a large urban school district and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction. After many rewarding years in the public schools teaching fifth grade, while working at Outschool, I discovered a new passion for working with younger learners, which inspired me to shift my focus to K-2 special education.

I teach a wide range of classes, some not mentioned below! Math, phonics, struggling readers, one on one, and more!

John Hoell

Intermediate Math Teacher

Hi, I’m John—a 1-8 teacher with 35+ years in the classroom (yes, I started when chalkboards were still cool). Over the years, I’ve taught just about every type of learner—gifted, struggling, quirky, curious—you name it.

Math is my thing, and I love turning “Wait, what?” into “Ohhh, I get it!” by breaking down tricky concepts into simple, clear steps. Every student is different, so I make it my mission to meet them where they are and help them grow. Even after all these years, nothing beats that lightbulb moment!

Heather Mullenax

Reading Teacher

Hi, I’m Heather! With over 30 years of experience in the classroom, I bring a deep love of teaching—and especially reading—to everything I do. I'm currently a third-grade teacher in Ohio, where one of my key focuses is helping students pass the Ohio Third Grade Reading Guarantee. Over the years, I’ve helped students of all reading levels build the strategies they need not just to pass the test, but to truly enjoy the process of learning through reading.

When I’m not teaching, you’ll most likely find me with a book in hand, ideally near the water. That passion for reading finds its way into my classroom every day. My students and I love diving into new topics, building background knowledge, expanding vocabulary, and discovering just how fun learning can be.

Angie Graham

Science Teacher

Hi, I’m Angie!  I’m a 5th grade science and social studies teacher with over 5 years of classroom experience—and I still get excited every time we start a new experiment! I love making science come alive through hands-on activities and demonstrations that help students understand how and why things work.

In my Outschool classes, we won’t just learn science concepts—we’ll see them in action. My goal is to create interactive, engaging lessons that spark curiosity (and maybe even get a little messy—in the best way!).

When I’m not teaching, I enjoy collecting rocks, gardening, hiking, visiting museums, and playing Pokémon Go!

Jennifer Wheeler

Phonics & Oral Language Teacher

Hi, I’m Ms. Jen! I’m a licensed speech-language pathologist and teacher with over 25 years of experience working with children in both public schools and clinical settings. I specialize in supporting students with a wide range of abilities, helping them meet their articulation and language goals in fun, engaging ways.

On Outschool, I focus on phonics instruction—teaching students how to read and spell words with confidence. Whether your learner is working at grade level or needs extra support in a safe, encouraging environment, my classes are designed to build skills while keeping learning enjoyable.

When I’m not teaching, you’ll find me with my daughter, Grace, and my certified therapy dog, Bailey—who I’ve trained to provide comfort and support to others, especially those feeling anxious or overwhelmed. I also love reading and visiting the most magical place on Earth—Disney!

Angie Ross

Phonics Classes & Reading Tutor

Hi I am Angie! I am a former Ohio elementary teacher for students with special needs.

I recently retired after teaching students with IEPs for the past 32 years. While there were a handful of years teaching high school and middle school students, my career mainly centered on teaching students at the elementary level focusing on basic math skill, reading comprehension, and a heavy influence on phonics based reading.

As a mom, my husband and I volunteered as swim officials, being part of music boosters and attending as many sporting and music events as possible to support our children. We are enjoying time at the beach and spending time with our pets.

Dennis Sheridan

Business Manager

Hi, I’m Dennis Sheridan, and I’m the Business Manager for Effective Effort With Elizabeth LLC. After more than two decades as a firefighter and paramedic, I’m taking on a new challenge: supporting my wife’s growing educational business. I bring the same sense of structure, problem-solving, and dependability that’s been at the core of my career since 1999.

While Elizabeth focuses on curriculum and instruction, I manage the day-to-day operations that keep things running behind the scenes—keeping our systems organized and making sure we stay on track as we grow.

I’m proud to be part of a mission-driven business that values meaningful learning, and I’m committed to building a strong foundation that helps our teachers thrive and our students succeed.
